This course asks:
What is information technology, broadly conceived? How did it develop? Who did it? What has been the process of diffusion into the economy and society? How and why did the Network Society take shape? In this course, we’ll analyze the interaction between society and contemporary information technologies, in a multicultural and comparative perspective. In doing so, we’ll examine what data and evidence are in the social sciences, how they are used, and how they are interpreted. We'll also explore how this informs the development of wiki MIT OCW-centric World University and School:

Blue Morpho: education and Scottish country dancing, "Why Blockchain is a Game Changer for the Health Industry", WUaS's "You at WUaS" and online teaching "Hospitals" and "Clinical Research" and again planning for all 7 billion+ people on the planet database-wise, Stanford Medicine Grand Rounds, WUaS developing in NEW Miraheze MediaWiki, WUaS is just beginning to matriculate/enroll students, and presently this is with an email from me, Here's an example of course structure for our first matriculating students re a MIT OCW course

Ross (and Liz),

Thanks for your email. See you tomorrow at Stanford Medicine if you're there; I met Jonathan Chen at another Grand Rounds not long ago - http://medicinecalendars.stanford.edu/event/medicine-grand-rounds-understanding-healthcare-reform-pre-aca-to-aca-to/?instance_id=20184.

Looks like Mountain View Scottish Country Dancing begins on Wednesdays on Sept 6 - http://www.mtview-rscds.org/.

And the RSCDS-SF has a fairly comprehensive listing of dances+ in the SF Bay Area - http://www.rscds-sf.org/classes/.

Red Thistle SCD in Palo Alto, which I may have mentioned to you, appears to be for advanced dancers.

Startup World University and School is just beginning to matriculate/enroll students, and presently this is with an email from me and for an online CC MIT OCW-centric Bachelor's degree in English. If you know of someone who's interested, please invite them to email me at ___@worlduniversityandschool.org ; the (new) wiki is open for teaching and learning, and soon in many languages.

(WUaS is interested even in planning for very large numbers of students in all ~200 countries' official languages - and even all 7 billion+ people for Blockchain/bitcoin +. Here's an explanation of Blockchain's potential which I recently found helpful re health care data: "Why
Blockchain is a Game Changer for the Health Industry" -
https://twitter.com/GerdMoeBehrens/status/899024693050695680 (posted here recently - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch) - and for WUaS's "You at WUaS" and online teaching "Hospitals" and "Clinical Research" and again planning for all 7 billion+ people on the planet database-wise.

Hope to see you tomorrow morning if you're at Medical Grand Rounds.

All the best,
Scott

Ross, thank you as well.

Alas, for Scottish country dancing!

I'm teaching an open course on the Information Age on Tuesdays at 9 am in a group video Hangout beginning Tuesdays, September 26th - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html - if you might be interested, and otherwise there are literally potentially unlimited opportunities on the wiki side -
wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org - for both teaching and learning, with much MIT OpenCourseWare, for example. What are you interested in learning?

See you soon!

Best wishes,
Scott

Hi Luca,

Thanks for your clear feedback. I hope this finds you well as well. I'm learning about this Miraheze Mediawiki software, and so am grateful for your replies.

By a) automatically or b) for myself, I meant by a) machine translation or b) by my own translation. Am I correct in assuming that Miraheze Mediawiki doesn't (yet) have machine translation, since I don't see a German translation, nor the option to machine translate this - neither on the translated "Mission" page you shared

https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&group=page-Mission&language=de&action=page&filter=

nor in the new "Frettinga" test page I created -

https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&group=page-Frettinga&language=de&action=page&filter=

I only see the option to type in my own translation. (I thought I might see the beginnings of a German translation, but also wonder whether that will further emerge when Wikidata-lexeme - http://wikidata-lexeme.wmflabs.org/index.php/Main_Page in Wikidata/Wiktionary emerges).

(I made the new Frettinga test page here https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States ... https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Frettinga, and added just "de" to the priority languages, in reply to your question).

So thanks to you, here is the beginning of a translated Frettinga test page - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&group=page-Frettinga&language=de&action=page&filter=.

I'll begin to seek Chinese and Spanish translators for WUaS degree programs in those languages - and soon to begin to add MIT OCW courses to various WUaS Subject pages, when they are newly in Miraheze.

(And WUaS seeks eventually to generate an universal translator - and probably partly with Lexeme-Wikidata, since WUaS donated itself to Wikidata in Oct 2015, and even for academic publishing to paper+ (so book publication) - so how best to focus / help to create this in its emergence, Luca? Phabricator?)

I'll begin now to follow up on some of my other recent questions, and re Phabricator, especially for Citoid, and Templates for "Languages" as wiki schools in those languages, and Templates for "Nation States" as universities in their official/main languages.

How please would you suggest creating a list of languages on the left like Spanish here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nontheist_Quakers - and with Spanish, but where the priority languages also include German, and the MIT OCW languages - Chinese, Spanish, Korean, Portuguese, Turkish, Persian (which are MIT OCW languages - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/) - and Romanian, French, Russian, Arabic, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_languages_of_the_United_Nations), Hindi, Tamil, Scots Gaelic, Vietnamese, Japanese and Italian (and the option to easily add other languages, like Native American languages, for example) - also over on the left?

Thank you, Luca!

Best regards, Scott

*
Hi Luca (and All),

Thank you again - and particularly for your helpful and encouraging responses to my questions about the new - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/ - which is coming along nicely.

Eventually WUaS will seek to have machine translation available on this wiki, especially in that WUaS seeks to create an universal translator in all 7,099 living languages (for text, voice, for an academic press in all languages, potentially integrated with CC-0 Wikisource, and in a realistic virtual earth - and for (Google?) brain research even), but not yet.

Re Languages - which are WUaS's first and foremost area (of about 10 areas) ... worlduniversityandschool.org (each planned, in that language, as a wiki school or a major university i.e. Harvard/MIT/Stanford) - it would be great to be able to just list all 295 languages in Wikipedia in the left column of WUaS's new wiki, and also plan for all 7,099 living languages (in Ethnologue), 8,444 entries in languages (in Glottolog), the languages of the ISO 639+ and then make it possible for an academic linguistic researcher or a computational linguist, for example, to add other ones they find or invent etc. (... similarly for WUaS Nation States, each to become a major university in their official / main languages).

Would it be possible please to just begin creating "Languages" and ~200 (Olympics?) "Nation States' lists in the left column, soon-ish? ("Nation States" would be in English and their official/main languages again, to start).

In the meantime, I'll explore using the language tag you suggest - "" ...

Re the Wikidata-Lexeme, which Lydia's team has been developing ...  https://twitter.com/nightrose/status/898936778807291908 ...
http://wikidata-lexeme.wmflabs.org/index.php/Main_Page - it looks like this is NOT a WMF project - Warning: this is not a live Wikimedia Foundation project. - so it could potentially become integrated independently of WMF.

I'll continue with developing some of my previous questions in this thread e.g. a) Citoid in Wikipedia's languages and re Miraheze Phabricator and b) WUaS TEMPLATES which would also be integrated languages-wise (above). I'm curious to begin too adding individual CC-4 MIT OCW courses to individual WUaS wiki subjects (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Computer_Science - and which might connect with matriculated students - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/You_at_World_University), but this would probably wait until the WUaS SUBJECT TEMPLATE is working in Miraheze. How best to integrate the SUBJECT TEMPLATE in multiple languages WITH Wikidata/Wikibase, and language by language, is also an imminent question.

In the meantime, I'll also begin to explore the English-German translation potentials further, and seek Chinese and Spanish academics and coders - since these are WUaS's pilot languages. Thank you.

Gratefully, Scott

Hi Luca (and All),

Thanks so much, Luca, for your many good suggestions!

I'll check out - https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CustomSidebar - and many of your other good Miraheze information technologies, and re these previous beginning attempts at "Languages" and "Nation States" at WUaS:

In a Stanford Law Codex presentation (with Stanford Law Professor Roland Vogl) two weeks ago, I met MIT"s and lawyer Dazza Greenwood, who's leading Blockchain development in Cambridge, MA.

... planning for Blockchain (and Bitcoin) at this stage has much merit.

Here's an explanation of Blockchain's potential which I found helpful re health care data: "Why Blockchain is a Game Changer for the Health Industry" - https://twitter.com/GerdMoeBehrens/status/899024693050695680 (posted here recently - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch) - and WUaS's "You at WUaS" and Teaching "Hospitals" and "Clinical Research" are planning for all 7 billion+ people on the planet database-wise.

WUaS is also planning an online Academic Press - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html - in all 7,099 living languages with robust machine translation (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Academic_Press_at_World_University_and_School) and similarly an online Bookstore, and potentially coding these with CC-0 Wikisource (per Lydia) in Wikipedia's 295 languages. All of this would integrate with Blockchain and Bitcoin in all ~200 countries, and the WUaS law students (and Computer Science Ph.D. students) in all ~200 countries' official languages could help code for this in their countries' legal system.

Thank you, Scott

Here's an example of course structure for our first matriculating students re a MIT OCW course.

Dear T:
The course web site is https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/sloan-school-of-management/15-031j-energy-decisions-markets-and-policies-spring-2012/index.htm.   It looks to me like this course was offered live in the spring and will not be offered live this fall.  However, the web site has links to all of the materials that you will need to take with course as an independent study course with me.

The grading scheme listed on the web site cannot work, since there won't be students to make a team.  Instead, I will assign you a pass/fail grade based on your completing the work and sending me the assignments and on your doing well on the tests that I generate for you.  Okay?

The next step is for you to explore this web site and make sure that you discuss any problems with me.  Sincerely, L.V.

Eared quetzal (eared trogon): Meditation emerging from the warm pool at Harbin Hot Springs even, Moving to the Center, A bit more Yoga daily, Does movement create new cells and neurons? (I asked Google) Yes, for example, see these articles, Hippy~anjali Yoga Notations, But how would Yoga asana localization possibilities HEAL?, Columbia Univ - "How do wounds, cuts, scrapes, lacerations heal?", Now how to reverse and heal eustachian tube dysfunction ...

Hi M,

I imagine you've settled in home again, and could even have enjoyed a lovely breakfast on the back porch today. How's the weather? How are you?

I've been sitting in meditation every day for years now (the dailiness partly emerging from the warm pool at Harbin even - where such meditation in cross-legged lotus pose, as a kind of anchor in its buoyant water, is really releasing and can be somehow uniquely wonderful).

But I'm now wanting to add a bit more Yoga after this sitting - and until I'm 874 (and then yet a bit more Yoga after this:) - say to about 15 minutes of Yoga in the morning now. For example, today I did Sun Salutations, and Viparita Karani (legs up the wall pelvis elevated chest opener pose - which is a favorite regenerative one for me) ... and partly re my R eustachian tube dysfunction (gargling with salt in very hot water seems to be the one thing that might help - and a Nadi pot isn't my thing:), and my shorter right leg, and my right shoulder injury, and with the bellows under my right arm on my small pipes, and now after the R top tooth crown ... - and I was able to do sun salutations and Viparita Karani re my right should today, I'm glad to say .... but I still can't do full chest openers like shoulder stand or any pose that pulls that right front shoulder "pinion attachment" I'll call it. So I think active yoga movement will generate fitness and wellness, and even connections (neural, cellular et al).

Does movement create new cells and neurons? (I asked Google) Yes, for example, see these articles:

http://www.livestrong.com/article/534560-does-exercise-increase-red-blood-cells/

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/science/neurophilosophy/2012/feb/23/brain-new-cells-adult-neurogenesis

Would also like to explore the "plan" word, possibly with B ... G's planning thinking "If you don't plan, someone else will" ... could be relevant here too.

Interesting that Bri is moving closer to the center at Crosslands-Kendall, and downsizing.

In further planning - and re "moving to the center" (I hear G's thinking here again) - I think it could be fascinating to move to Palo Alto with Stanford as its center, or in terms of possible plan B and C ... to Boston (Concord area?) ... or to Philadelphia, and perhaps downtown center near Friends' Center in Phil or somewhere between Arch Street as another Quaker center and the University of Pennsylvania, if ... for example. Eventually, when I'm 85-100 or older, it might be interesting to move to Crosslands/Kendall even ... (since I've lived in the Media/Swarthmore/Wallingford area at Pendle Hill before, for example). But Stanford and Palo Alto of these places is the nicest with the nicest weather too. Culturally? ... I like proximity to Cuttyhunk for community (as a definition of culture here) ... but I don't think I want to live in New Bedford.

Heading to Quaker Meeting today ... would be great if the SF Meeting was in a very beautiful location, in a very beautiful building, with much green around, and generated a culture of trust, and I'l also say generativity - and for kids in the children's program too, as well as adults. In its attempt to be of service, it's chosen a pretty down and out area of SF to be in ... but this all could change too. It's possible even that a World University Bookstore will emerge even in the front room of the SF Quaker Meeting this October amazingly.

Two new Logos for WUaS too -

Hi M,

Glad to hear ... and thanks for your email. Hi to Kare!

Found two articles on how exercise - such as Yoga asana with its range and localization possibilities - creates a) cells and b) neural cells
(called neurogenesis) ...
http://www.livestrong.com/article/534560-does-exercise-increase-red-blood-cells/

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/science/neurophilosophy/2012/feb/23/brain-new-cells-adult-neurogenesis

But how would Yoga asana localization possibilities HEAL - say the floaters in my eye from my recent tooth process - is another question?

So I looked up in Google "why would filling a body part with blood heal it?" (such as from a particular Yoga pose) and found:

How do wounds, cuts, scrapes, lacerations heal?

http://goaskalice.columbia.edu/answered-questions/how-do-wounds-cuts-scrapes-lacerations-heal

Now how to reverse and heal eustachian tube dysfunction ...

Heading to Stanford soon for a noon Ph.D. defense - https://events.stanford.edu/events/704/70497/ - and re WUaS genetic engineering, and also to a concert in Stanford Memorial Church by a choir from the Burlingame Episcopal Church that sung in England this summer - https://events.stanford.edu/events/696/69687/. It might be an interesting choir to explore singing in this autumn - and both for harmonizing and music-making as well as networking.

Hi Susan,

So nice to hang out at Harbin a few years ago! The Valley fire at Harbin was dramatic in September 2015, razing it. It was going to be open by early October 2017, but now it'll probably be by spring 2018 - due to building a new Watsu pool on Mainside.

Bringing together my new Poetry book for the autumn, and found these Haiku-ish again last week when writing you - http://scottmacleod.com/poetry.htm. It's tentatively entitled: "Haiku-ish and Other Loving Hippie Harbin Poetry."

Hi All,

You'll find here the Minutes for the WUaS Corporation Board Meeting (First) Monday, Aug 14, 2017 at 12:30 pm PT.

I've attached the "WUaS Corporation Bylaws 2017" from the template in the Nolo Press book "How to Form Your Own California Corporation" (17th ed).

Welcome to

Julian Dumitrascu as startup CEO / President of the WUaS Corporation (beginning this autumn and re 10 hours/week)

One of the WUaS Corporation's first goals is to begin an online Bookstore/Computer Store in English, (and the pilot languages of Chinese, Spanish as well as German) as educational services, and generate revenues and potentially code into this process THE BLOCKCHAIN and bitcoin, anticipating all ~200 nation states.

*

WUaS's for-profit WUaS Corporation web presences (of the 10 planned revenue streams, potentially in all 7099 languages with machine translation) presently are:

WORLD UNIVERSITY BOOKSTORE
- http://www.scottmacleod.com/ActualVirtualHarbinBook.html
(EXPLORATORILY
-a) as the beginning of the bookstore - expanding a page for each book into 10s of thousands+ of web pages + and first in Chinese, Spanish and German;
-b) coding this with CC-0 Wikisource in its 358 languages;
-c) using the initial book inventory of the Quaker Earthlight Books - with whom I've met and talked with a few times - in the SF Bay Area as both on-the-ground and online stock ... and possibly even in the SF Meeting House in October too)

ACADEMIC PRESS AT WUaS
- http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html
- https://twitter.com/WUaSPress

These bookstores/computer stores + will eventually be in all 7,099 languages and, for example, be for online teaching hospital for hospital technologies too in each of all ~200 countries official languages (as educational services to the online WUaS Medical Schools).

Sincerely,
Scott

Berry-head-Sun-Sun, Yoga & Warm Philosophy?

Patanjali's Yoga Sutras begin with what is sometimes translated as "Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind," which is also often chanted. At least my wee Hippy-Yoga-Notations-Meditations don't leave the reader-yogi dead from the outset of the Sutras :) (in my interpretation here, and with concerns about such language, translated from a beautiful old Sanskrit language, and en-culturated over some 2000 years ... hopping some oceans in between) ... appreciating Angela and Victor's thinkiting here

Not sure why my veggie-ness (being an ovo-lacto-vegetarian, which I was also when I lived the first year in Scotland in 1976-1977, - being a child of the '60s that I was, and a bit of a peachy-peace-head rebel) seems to have a beneficial ecology .. (in my life) ... seeking a natural concept for a kind of karma idea here, with inclusiveness for biology/neurophysiology/symbols-internet/evolutionary biology's 3-100 million species's as significant related ideas ... and re the fish oil / flax oil harmonizing and brightening effect bennies (benefits) of omega 3s (for me) ... how would this work and re Harbin too? ... with learning-from-Bonobo in these Yoga-Notations too ... LA hippies ... Jim Morrison ... Esalen ... wonder if Ishvara (current Founder of Harbin since 1972) knew The Doors?

Are MD (Medical Doctor) scrubs modern day gender-neutral hospital-caring saris? :)

Opening to warmth and caring in my envisioning ... is different from opening to the warmth, connecting and meditating in the warm pool ...:)

Warm regards, Scott
